I’ll be writing in details about our unsuccessful vacations in Western Sicily and just wanted to pour out my anger immediately.
Western Sicily is a dirty place with rubbish on beaches and streets (and sometimes sea, beware of Alcamo Marina, in particular) and absence of decent food stores (both large supermarkets and small authentic pasticcerias and pescherias).
Those food shops that we’ve seen (and we’ve been to all the chains like Coop, Simply, Lidl, ARD, etc) are stored with prepacked food and cheap versions of Italian ham & cheeses (can you imagine buying mozarella in Italy that was manufactured in Germany?).
That was our seventh visit to Italy (and second to Sicily) and we couldn’t even imagine what a bad choice we were making. My advice – keep away from the area west of Palermo, namely Castellamare del Golfo, Trapani, Marsala and Mazara del Vallo regions.
